Just a few days until the Tiki Central Grand Members-only print sets go on sale. You've probably already seen my post from July 22nd, but I'm repeating it again so anyone who wants a set doesn't get left out (or is forced to buy from a $%^&*#@ eBay scalper).

"4 modern tiki legends, 4 prints
limited edition of 200 sets
"

Prints go on sale August 13th to qualifying Grand Members!

Looking at the Grand Member Register, I see 198 members, from #1-Hanford Lemoore (joined Jan 12th) to #198-Aaron (joined July 31st).

Hey, that's me at #11-BaronV (joined Jan 14th)!

Unless folks have been signing up since July 31st, that means that there at least two sets available (and maybe more depending on how many Grand Members abstain from buying).

Here's the info.

It has a name - Shag's contribution to Copro/Nason's "Age of Aquarius" Group Show -

"Violet Boy, Indigo Girl"

I'm a sucker for a survey, here's the results from the last cheesy web-poll on this site.

Don't forget to vote in the new poll on the lower left - I'm a sad sad person and need things like this to entertain me.

Sweating too death, circled with every fan in the house, and listening to Orbital's last ever gig broadcasted on Thursday by John Peel-

Is it me...  or does the gentlemen have three hands?

What do you think...  legit?

These mugs were not designed by Shag, but the eBay scalpers will be trying their damndest to associate him with these mugs.

The Enchanted Tiki Room Chanting Tiki Mugs

From Tiki Farm - "The mugs are available now at the Adventureland Bazaar, located directly opposite the entrance to the Jungle Cruise in Adventureland.

The price per mug is only $14 each and that is a tremendous value for such a significant piece from today’s revitalized Tiki resurgent movement.  The mugs are selling fast but don’t fret!  Disneyland ® Resort has another shipment scheduled to be available at the Adventureland Bazaar in early September!

We regret that Disneyland DelivEARS will not accept any phone calls or mail order requests for these items at this time."

Will be patiently waiting for DelivEARS to have these for sale (unless some kind soul in the Anaheim area wants to be a pal).

It's so hot here I think I'm melting...

Yet another entry into the eBay "You Got To Be Kidding Me" Hall of Fame -

eBay #3918299492 - "SHAG RARE ART, STYLE & FONT GUIDEBOOK TOO COOL & RETRO!"

Yes, it's the House Industries catalog sent out free last fall to advertise their fonts, concentrating on the (then) new Shag collection.

eBay Seller toddhackett's "Buy It Now" Price = $195.00

I think I have one of these lying around the house, I'll sell it for the low, low price of $194.99 if anyone is interested.  Free shipping too!

Hanford Lemoore, runs the Tiki Central Forums - a very informative sight stocked with hundreds of very interesting (to say the least) tiki fan-atics.

Shag + Mr Lemoore have teamed up to release  four 6" x 10", 5-color, hand-pulled serigraphs in a limited edition run of 200 sets.

Sven, Author of the Book of Tiki
Leroy, legendary Tiki carver from Oceanic Arts
Shag, Modern Tiki artist
Otto, publisher of Tiki News and master of Tiki Oasis

At the beginning of the year, Mr. Lemoore created the Tiki Central Grand Member program to offset server costs and whatever magic entails running a real web-site (as opposed to a cheesy blog like this one).  Two bucks a month, twenty four bucks a year, to help a guy out - not a bad deal.

If you became a Grand Member of TC before July 20th, you can score these prints for $20.00 each (or $80.00 a set) during during the "Initial Offering" between August 13th and August 27th (at least).

Missed the boat and want the chance to score a set?  There were less than 2oo members before July 20th and it's one(1) set per person.  JOIN NOW.  After the "Initial Offering" is closed, the remaining prints will become available to Grand Members who joined after July 20th.

Wow.  My one question - when will the 5th print featuring Hanford be released?

What are you still reading this?  Sign up!

Ahoy maties!  I sees that eBay seller "wackyfunshop" has steered his ship into the Sea of Rational Opening Prices (and capzized that insane But It Now price)!

(I still recommend getting "BBQ" from Grand Central Art Center, but I have an obsession with getting serigraphs from the gallery that releases it - Melancholy Werewolf from DC Gallery,  Palm Springs Serenade from M Modern, the Heroes & Monsters set from Outre, etc.)

Word around the schoolyard about the Be@rbrick World Tour -

There were 40 be@rs on exhibition at the Parco Museum in Tokyo in June.  10 of the be@rs were released (at normal Be@rbrick size) for sale as a set (designers were HF, DevilRobots, Gimme Five, Marok, Stash, Andre, Skatething, SSUR, Perks and Medicom Toy).

The remaining 30 be@rs will be separated into 3 sets of 10 for at least three other shows - NYC and LA in 2005.  Paris in early 2005 (almost likely to be at Colette) and somewhere in London at some time.

Here's images from the Be@rbrick World Tour Book showing all 40 be@rs:

So, sometime in the next 16 months a little Shag Be@rbrick will be available to buy.  (I like the Be@rbrick he did more than the Qee.)

Found this on the Shooting Gallery's web-page -

"Tiki Art Now" a new book by Otto Von Stroheim,
Forward by Robert Williams.
Published by Last Gasp.
Now in the printing process...
Call The Shooting Gallery at 415-931-8035 to order your copy at a pre-release discount price.
Art will show @ The Shooting Gallery in September

The "Summer of Tiki" Group Show is September 2004)

Here's a pic of the cover -

I tried blowing the image up for a better view, but it came out too fuzzy.  (I'm using MS Paint. )

Anyone see this painting before?  I'm pretty sure I haven't.

Gloria Estefan - CONGA

Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga
I know you can't control yourself any longer
Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga
I know you can't control yourself any longer

Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga
I know you can't control yourself any longer
Feel the rhythm of the music getting stronger
Don't you fight it 'til you tried it, do that conga beat

Everbody gather 'round now
Let your body feel the heat
Don't you worry if you can't dance;
Let the music move your feet

It's the rhythm of the island, and like the sugar cane so sweet
If you want to do the conga, you've got to listen to the beat

Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga
I know you can't control yourself any longer
Feel the rhythm of the music getting stronger
Don't you fight it 'til you tried it, do that conga beat

Feel the fire of desire, as you dance the night away
'Cause tonight were gonna party, 'til we see the break of day

Better get yourself together, and hold on to what you've got
Once the music hits your system, there's no way your gonna stop

(repeat 3x's) Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga
I know you can't control yourself any longer
Feel the rhythm of the music getting stronger
Don't you fight it 'til you tried it, do that conga beat

Come on , shake your body baby, do the conga

eBay scalper "wackyfunshop"'s price for the "BBQ" Shag etching?  Buy it now is $375.00, but bidding starts at the low low price of $350.00.

Classy, real frickin' classy.

Grand Central Art Center's price?  Framed is $240 and unframed is $180.  (Call 714-567-7233 to get one today and kick a scalper in the arse.)

Maybe my paranoia is not needed -  even though eBay seller "mmedlin88" is "Not a registered user" anymore it does appear that she did own the "La Costa Barbarossa" original at some time.

(Thanks to Ed, owner of #17, for the link.)

-----

Holy *fill in the blank*!  The "janitor_of_lunacy" must have really wanted that hardcover Heroes & Monsters book.  S/He'd previously bid $271 for #20 in April (did not meet reserve).

Saturday, July 17, 2004

Why bid $99.99 (or $150.00) when you can bid $9.99?

Wow, eBay seller "mmedlin88" is "Not a registered user" anymore.  Wonder if this was before or after s/he was paid $7,211.00 for the "La Costa Barbarossa" original?

Less than a day left for the "The Reluctant Goddess" original up on eBay.  This will be the first sale scalper... err... seller "musiqueplus" has made in a long while.

-----

Yes, I do have a life (to some degree), but I have been wondering what the upcoming (in three months) "Holidays on Ice" solo show will be like.  A celebration of plastic capitalistic holiday rituals?  Hijinks and hilarity during the Ice Age?  Perhaps he was a fan of David Sedaris' book from 1998 (I know I wasn't)?

No matter what, I'm very interested to see what Mr. Agle ends up displaying in Paris this October.

(Being an American who's lived abroad since 1997, do the majority of Yanks still have that issue with France?  I do wholeheartedly understand the Brits being a tad bitter over that spat in 1066 and Brazil's right to be PO'd over the French somehow winning the World Cup in '98.)

First off, Happy 10th Birthday Outre Gallery...

Now, go buy a softcover "Heroes & Monsters" book from them for only $20.00 (show those eBay scalpers who's boss).

-----

Ox-Op Gallery is selling a 96 page softcover book about their current Qeedrophonic Group Show for $17.95.  Haven't seen one yet up close and personal, but "...it includes all the original custom pieces in the show, heaps of original art, and pages designed by the artists themselves."

-----

There is a 90 page hardcover book commemorating the 2004 Be@rbrick World Tour too, but I can't find a non-eBay based seller (usually goes for about fifty bucks) -

-----

Another hardcover "Heroes & Monsters" book is on eBay - #6 (of 50).  Here's a pic of the sketch -

Other sketches -

Seven

Seventeen

Twenty

Forty-Five

Anyone out there have a copy of the hardcover, a digital camera/scanner, and feel the need to gloat to the world that you have a one-of-a-kind Shag sketch?  Please e-mail me a photo.

Here's an odd one - i tried to e-mail the seller of the "La Costa Barbarossa" original up for auction on eBay and both times my e-mail was returned "Undeliverable - The recipient name is not recognized."

Note: eBay's Contact Information Policy requires that all members have updated contact information on file with us at all times. If you request the seller's contact information, and it is incorrect, contact us.

(From the eBay "How do i contact a seller" page.)

Anyone out there have any luck contacting eBay seller "mmedlin88"?

Hopefully the winner of the eBay auction, hothou2u8n, isn't being grifted out of $7,211.00.

Latest issue of Juxtapoz showed up in the mail this afternoon. I'll post each and every minute reference about Mr. Agle as soon as i eat some dinner.

Time For a Bit of eBay Heckling -

Whoo-wee... Haven't seen one of these for sale in a while.

-----

Another original up for sale -

The Reluctant Goddess

Show - Juxtapoz 10th Anniversary Group Show
Dates - April 1 to 30, 2004
Gallery - 111 Minna Gallery, San Francisco, California
eBay Auction #3735488924 - "SHAG Original Painting - The Reluctant Goddess"
Auction Started - Jul-08-04 22:19:31 PDT
Auction Ends - Jul-18-04 22:19:31 PDT
Seller - musiqueplus
Opening Price - $4,999.99

(Seller musiqueplus put the "A is for Alligator" original up for sale four times with no luck due to his/her very unrealistic prices. Is $4,999.99 a realistic price for this 11-1/2" x 24-1/2" painting? We'll see.)

What's so special about these "SHAG Pink Panther Promo Poster/Print *RARE*" that eBay seller "tinyearle" has been selling?

eBay #3732367520 went for $40.00 on 23 Jun
eBay #3732523702 went for $82.51 on 30 June
eBay #3734041569 went for $142.50 on 08 July

These are promo posters, looking at what eBay seller "tinyearle" either works at a record store (or radio station) or knows someone who does. Labels send scads of promo crap to record stores/radio stations (a legal version of pay-o-la) - go hassle your local independent record store (or local college radio station), I bet they have a stack of them tucked in a closet.

Hassle those slackers, make sure to ask them if they have any copies of Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called To Say I Love You" too!

-----

On that note, who's buying the framed mini prints (and framed coasters) out there? Take a framing class, buy some of Shag's art books, and save yourself some $$$!

(Not a paid promotion, but Overstock.com has Shag's art books for CHEEP!)

-----

I had a dream last night about what Shag's painting for Copro Nason's "Age of Aquarius" Group Show (opening next Saturday, 17 Jul) would look like. Unfortunately I think it involved the "American Tribal Love-Rock Musical".

Anyone out there have any ideas? Hopefully none that involve synthesized pan-flutes?

Shag's contribution to the Be@rbrick Worldwide Tour. Pictures were not allowed on the gallery, but a few were taken anyway by some hardcore Kubrick/Be@rbrick fans (not me).

Also, I've been told that the artists own the bears, not Medicom - will Shag be selling this?

Finally, here's an article from early 2001. (Thanks to the Lovely Ms. Peterson from Stuff-o-Rama for the link!)
